Meditate to disentangle yourself from the content of your experience

So what's the point of having a regular meditation practice? What is the long game we're playing here?

Well, some have argued, and I think quite persuasively, that the main point is to disentangle our sense of identity, and therefore our sense of our well -being, from the content of our experience. In other words, to break the connective chain between what's happening out here in the world and my sense of who I am so that no matter what happens out there in the content of my experience, I get that I'm still not only okay, but spectacular.

This is why so many meditative practices ask us to step back from the content of experience and notice who and what is noticing the content of experience so that we get some distance between what's out there happening in our lives and all around us and our sense of self and our sense of well -being.

Meditate and disentangle yourself from the content of your experience.
