Meditation rescues us from our delusions about time

Meditation can help free us from our delusions about time.

We are deluded about time when we live in the past, let's say with regret. Regret might look like, gosh, if only I had. Well, if only I had is a delusion. There's no alternative version of the past other than what actually happened. So every time we regret and say, if only this had happened or if only I had done this alternative thing, we're simply playing in a fantasy land.

Similarly, any thoughts that we might have about the future are pure fantasy. They might be predictive, which in varying levels of accuracy of those predictions, but it's still fantasy.

All of these fantasies, whether they be about the past or about the future, are happening now.

Meditation, by grounding us in the present moment, offers us the possibility of freeing ourselves from our delusions, and rooting ourselves in reality. And frankly, if you're to live in this world, we are going to be a whole lot better off by grounding ourselves in reality than by floating on some cloud of fantasy.

So meditate for that reason, if no other.
